Watch the clip from the original 1971 version of the Andromeda Strain film. Background info: a satellite has crashed in a small desert town and all but 2 towns people have died immediately from some unknown cause. The military has gathered scientists and physicians to isolate and study the satellite for any sign of what might have caused the sudden deaths. They isolate a strange green substance and analyze it chemically. What do they find out? In comparison to the scientific method, what did these scientists do that is similar to what you know about "doing" science? What is different?
If you were on this scientific team, what would you do next? Remember there are two survivors: one is an alcoholic older man and the other is a crying 8-month-old baby. Hypothesize why they might have survived while others died.
